As it neared its 40th birthday, Mercedes decided that probably the most individual high-performance car in its range was due a facelift. Sustained by a relatively tiny but highly-committed base of owners, the ‘new’ G63 and G65 kept some of its out-of-vogue but effective mechanical framework of the original model, and added permanent four-wheel drive - with a choice of low-speed and standard gear ratios from the seven-speed box - a powerful V6 turbo diesel engine, and a state-of-the-art infotainment system.
